You start the season strong —
Hitting PBs on the track, getting the W on the field, and bouncing back quicker than ever thanks to a solid pre-season.
You’re fit.
Firing.
Feeling good.
But then, a few weeks in… things shift.
Your hammy tightens up. The knee starts to niggle. Recovery takes a bit longer.
You’re still playing, but it’s not as sharp. Not as clean.
By mid-season, you’re dragging yourself across the line each week.
And before you know it — you’re sidelined with an injury that started as something small… but wasn’t dealt with properly.
Sound familiar?
This is the cycle we see every year.
And while some injuries are unavoidable (contact sport is contact sport), the good news is that most overload injuries are preventable — with the right plan in place.
If you’re serious about performing your best all year long, here are 4 keys to an injury-free season:
1. Don't ditch your strength sessions
We get it — once games kick off and trainings ramp up, gym time often drops to the bottom of the list.
But strength work is non-negotiable if you want to stay robust and durable through the entire season.
You don’t need to lift heavy every week. Even 1–2 well-structured sessions focused on maintaining strength, stability, and mobility can make a huge difference to how your body holds up.
2. get regular treatment (before something becomes an issue)
Think of physio like servicing your car.
You don’t wait until the engine blows up to get a check-up.
Regular treatment — even when you’re feeling good — helps manage load, address small movement issues, and keep your body functioning at its best.
It also gives us a chance to spot potential problem areas before they become actual injuries. To book a screening session now, you can head over to this page here for all the information.
3. cross-train to recover smarter
Not every training session needs to be flat-out.
Adding in some low-impact movement like swimming, cycling, or mobility work is a great way to improve recovery, reduce joint stress, and keep you conditioned without overload.
Your body will thank you — especially later in the season.
4. don't ignore niggles
If something’s been hanging around for more than a few days — get it checked.
What starts as “just a bit tight” or “only sore when I sprint” can very quickly turn into weeks on the sidelines.
An assessment with your physio is a whole lot better than missing games.
We’ll look at your movement, strength, mechanics, and loading — and give you a clear plan to stay on the field and out of the rehab room.
Injury prevention is always better than cure.
So if you’re keen to stay in top shape and want peace of mind heading into the busy part of the season, book in for a strength or movement assessment now.
We’ll run you through a full check-up, identify any red flags, and set you up with a personalised plan to stay fit, fast, and firing.
